Free Printable Father's Day Card

Just for you. A nice, plain, simple, non-mushy, unsentimental father's day card that's free and you can print it at home, no colored ink required. You're welcome.

This will cut down into a 5x7 card and you can get envelopes this size at most craft stores. Because let's face it, I would much rather spend my time in Hobby Lobby than the dreaded greeting card aisle.

The card would look great on white cardstock but I printed mine on a nice ash-colored paper. I really like the grey. And also because that's what I had on hand. Easy peasy. :)

Oh, and Happy Father's Day. :)

May 2013 Update

The end of the school year is always busy and this year was no exception.

STACI: nYn product sales are doing exceptionally well and I’m hoping to try some new products over the summer.  I’m staying pretty busy with my doula clients as well and continuing to volunteer at Vandy with their doula program. My “day” job in event planning has been crazy busy and pretty stressful as I have a co-worker who has been out for a few weeks but I’m hoping that will resolve soon. I'm in full summer mode and ready for late bed times, ice cream, fun events and less stress. tLG and I have already been practicing! I did get my hair cut again for Locks of Love. This makes my 3rd donation. For the record, I don't like my hair short. At All. But, it's a humble reminder that beauty comes from the inside. This update wouldn't be complete without me mentioning that my Nashville bestie moved to Dallas, TX yesterday. I'm still not ready to talk about it but I'm thankful for the technology that will help us to stay connected.

MIKE: While he’s probably not thrilled about having to cut the grass again, he is excited that summer is here. He’s been out on our new jet ski a few times and the whole family went out on the pontoon boat for Memorial Day. Bass Pro also had a fishing tournament last month. The softball season is winding down and I know he’s anxious to get back to doing some outdoor climbing. Earlier this month, he and Skylar both received their yellow belts in Tae Kwon Do.

SKYLAR: The end of the year brought lots of special activities like Field Day and now she’s officially a 1st grader! She graduated Kindergarten last week. Her school does a special “fly over” ceremony where the kids get to run down the hallway over to the new part of school for elementary. Then, they sing a sweet, sweet song and all the mamas cry. They receive their diploma from their teacher and principal and end the day with a class tea ceremony. I just love all of the unique Montessori traditions (video here). In true end of school fashion, I “dressed the car up” and we headed out of town to celebrate the end of the school year.

We stopped off in Birmingham because Lil Sista graduated high school. It was a busy day but I managed to sneak in dinner and coffee with my Bham bestie. The next morning, we went to Panama City Beach, FL with my mom enjoying the sights, sounds, and activities that you can only find near the ocean. We all had a great time and I think it was a perfect way to celebrate the end of her primary years at Stanford. In fact, the vacation was so awesome that I really did not want to come home. At all.

Oh, and I’ve officially declared SIX as my new favorite age. It’s been about four years since I’ve had a new favorite age so it’s about time. I love her independence. I love our conversations. I love the ideas she comes up with. I love her style. I love her sweet moments. I love that she’s still light enough that I can pick her up if I really want to and that she lets me, on occasion. I just lover her little personality right now. She’s on the brink of being a big kid (elementary student) and I want to relish in her this summer with her. Besides, you know how much I love summer so I’m eagerly anticipating what the rest of this season will hold.

My Dislike for the Greeting Card Aisle

*I went looking for this post but realized I never published it. Whoopsie. But it's another holiday later and I still feel the exact same way. In fact, tomorrow is Mother's Day and I've dreaded going to the greeting card aisle all week. So, at the last minute I consulted Pinterest and found plain, blank, printable cards instead. Yes! They will all be signed with a simple message, sealed up and delivered without all the guilt. Except for my procrastination.*

***********************************
I have a hate-hate relationship with the greeting card aisle. It's safe to say that I'm not a fan. First of all, cards are expensive. If frugality were a love language, that would be mine hands down! :) It pains me to spend $4.99 (+ tax) on a piece of paper with fancy writing just to tell them Happy Birthday. Why can't I just "say" Happy Birthday?

Yesterday I found myself in the dreaded greeting card aisle once again. Here's my real beef with Hallmark and American Greetings. They make me feel like a loser and they make my somewhat normal family feel dysfunctional. I mean, let's be honest, all families are a little bit dysfunctional but mine is partly on the normal side compared to some. We haven't been on a talk show so I'd say that definitely puts us on the right side of midline.

But these cards are so "lovey dovey" and "you have always been there for me" and "our bond is so strong" and "you mean the world to me" and "you can do anything" and.... do I need to go on? I think you get the point. While I may have feelings for a family member that somewhat resemble these sentiments, there is never a perfect card. Those cards with long paragraphs on all 3 pages never get it right and it makes me feel horrible. I usually opt for funny and then pray that the receiver doesn't take offense.

Greeting card companies are good at what they do. I heard today that the U.S. spends approximately 1 BILLION dollars on greeting cards for Valentine's Day. They've convinced us that we MUST go out and buy one in order to show our love and devotion to each other. I wish I could find a card that says "I love you but I really don't like you sometimes. Yet, here I am loving you anyway." I have a feeling that wouldn't be a good seller but it's the truth.

I'm the same way when I receive a greeting card. I always think to myself, "they can't really mean this." I'm just not a greeting card girl. I don't save greeting cards. I keep them for an obligatory week and arrange them on the counter but I'm secretly counting down the days until I can toss it. The one exception to this rule is if hubby has put a handwritten note inside. I save those but wonder to myself why he didn't just save himself 5 bucks and just write it on a piece of paper. I guess this is my way of announcing to the world (my family and friends) that you are totally off the hook next birthday, holiday, ect. No card required. Use that $5 to buy me some Ferraro Roche or Ghiradelli Peppermint Bark instead. :)

April 2013 Update

Holy Mackrel! This may go down in history as the busiest April we (ahem, I) have ever had. Seemed like I had a major project to accomplish every week. There was no getting ahead. The only option was to take it one thing at a time but I do have lots of exciting things to report. Warning, long post ahead.

First, (drum roll please) MY Publix finally opened in Donelson. Yes, I'm calling it MY Publix because I truly believe they built it just for me. I have been harassing the poor real estate department at their corporate office for YEARS. I've been driving 30 minutes across town to shop at another Publix for YEARS because I refuse to shop anywhere else. It's the customer service. Once you go Publix, you never go back. MY new store is absolutely beautiful! It's a hybrid store meaning that they carry more organic and natural products than a regular grocery. My favorite department is the natural health section. I had heart palpitations when I saw all the tinctures and herbs and homeopathics and flower remedies. It was like icing on the cake (And we all know that Publix makes the best icing. In fact, I may not RSVP to your child's birthday party until I confirm the maker of the cake is going to be Publix.  Not even kidding.)!
Second, (wait for it) nurturing YOU naturally is now producing and selling homemade natural products. I debuted this new venture at our women's retreat during the open market and it was a huge success. I sold out of several items and came home with orders for more. I am really excited about this and anxious to start testing out some new recipes as well.
The retreat itself was actually fantastic all around. In fact, I would dare to say it's the best one I have ever been to. It was the perfect mix of fun and soul searching and I came home feeling refreshed and renewed with a new perspective of serving others. Here are my roomies from the weekend.
I also had the opportunity to speak to a group of ladies about couponing and I had another article to write for FUSION. Skylar also had surgery so I had quite a bit of research to do for that as well. I'm telling ya, I was covered up this month.

So, the surgery. tLG's 6-year-old molars didn't develop properly so, as soon as they broke through the skin, they were attacked by bacteria since they were not mineralized and had no enamel. We tried some natural remedies for about 3-4 months but we couldn't get ahead of the disease process. We tried to put in fillings but the damage ran too close to the nerve. I weighed several options including continuing natural remedies, putting crowns on the teeth, and extracting the teeth. I had countless consultations with different dental providers and with anesthesia. I researched medical journals and studies so much that my brain literally hurt. In the end, I was finally able to get the information that I needed to make an informed decision, which was crucial if I was going to subject my child to anything involving Western Medicine. I take this parenting gig pretty seriously. I am her only advocate and I don't want it to ever be said that I did something that wasn't in her best interest. I can't imagine not being informed about every detail, risk and benefit of her medical care. For me, not knowing is more scary. I'm not a fan of the "ignorance is bliss" philosophy. It's not my style.
The surgery went fine and, if everything bonds well, the teeth will be saved. The general anesthesia made her quite cranky. The surgery center staff and myself offered her ibuprofen multiple times when she complained of discomfort but she always refused and opted for homeopathic Arnica and essential oils instead. Talk about make a mama proud! Then, she defied all odds by returning to school the next day. I was a little surprised but I also know the healing powers of homeopathy and oils.

In other tLG news, she just finished her first week of state testing and we had a pillow party movie night to celebrate. Yeah, I find it a little difficult to believe that they have started standardized testing for Kindergarten but our girl told me she thought it was fun so we decided not to opt-out. However, during the real thing, she kept getting in trouble for trying to move ahead to the next section in her booklet. LOL!
No monthly update would be complete without a note about Mike. He's been busy with work and also with their softball league. The games are on Sunday afternoons so we get to go and watch him play. They also have a big fishing tournament coming up that he's pretty excited about. I can't remember if I've posted about this previously but he also finally has a set schedule each week and that has been such a blessing.

Earlier this month both Mike and tLG tested to receive their yellow belts for Tae Kwon Do. Be sure to check the videos page for a look at one of the patterns they had to perform.

We are less than a month away from the end of school and start of summer. Yea-uh!!! We've already been practicing by having summer dinner.
